Entrenched around Rachael Whittleʼs swaggering, off-kilter though decidedly arena-sized compositions, Pave The Jungle formed in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 2019. With the addition of drummer Scott Jeffery the duo was completed that spring, and over the ensuing summer the pair took to Blank Studios (Pigsx7, Richard Dawson, Du Blonde) to record debut EP ʻThe Hissingʼ.

Live momentum into 2020 was disrupted by the first Covid-19 lockdown – just days after a raucous opening slot with Texan alt-rock heavyweights ʻ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Deadʼ.

Plans to deliver ʻThe Hissingʼ in late 2020 remained in place however. Upon release in October, the EP met positive reviews from a respectable cross-section of press & radio. Early adopters of the band included DIY, Punktastic, NARC, VISIONS (DE), Amazing Radio, Total Rock Radio & BBC Introducing; the latter playlisting lead track ʻEmeraldʼ for cross-schedule play on BBC Radio Newcastle.

A follow-up arrived in the shape of self-produced single 'All You Know' in March '21, and one month later The Hissing received a physical release via Du Blonde's 'Daemon T.V.' imprint. Upon the return of live shows in mid-2021, the band showcased for Camden Rocks Festival and later embarked on their first UK tour - performing a total of 12 dates (culminating in a sold out Newcastle show) – while simultaneously heralding second EP ʻWaiting For Nothingʼ – recorded earlier in 2021 with Chris McManus at Blank Studios and mixed by Tarek Musa (Spring King, The Big Moon, Calva Louise).
